WATERLOO, Ont. (Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012) – An exceptional opportunity for Grade 10 students who are planning on a university education will take place at the University of Waterloo later this month.
Grade 10 Family Night happens on Thursday, Jan. 12, and will help prospective students find out about what they can do now to prepare for applying to any of Ontario's universities. Topics include courses to take in high school, as well as resources to learn more about the hundreds of university programs offered in Ontario. In addition, current Waterloo students will talk about what they wish they knew about university while still in high school.
“It’s never too early to start planning for university,” says Amelia Burton, Waterloo’s manager of liaison. “Grade 10 Family Night will help parents and high school students learn about the wide range of academic programs available, the admissions process, as well as different ways to help pay for university.”
Guests will be able to visit booths to learn about high school enrichment opportunities. In addition, there will be workshops, such as the following:
• Study what you love - choosing the right program for future success, by Waterloo professor Toni Serafini
• Admission requirements and application information, by Nancy Weiner, associate registrar at Waterloo
• Budgeting for a university education, by student awards and financial aid staff at Waterloo
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will take place in the Humanities Theatre, located in the J. G. Hagey Hall of the Humanities on the Waterloo campus.
